Tatarstan has won the third place in a general team ranking within the World Robot Olympiad’s national stage held in Kazan on 20-22 June.
Deputy Tatarstan Information Technology and Communications Minister Yuriy Bagrov told a briefing at Tatarstan Cabinet’s premises that 33 teams had represented the region and six of them had won prizes.
Cheliabinsk Oblast that won 12 prizes became the champion and was followed by Moscow with eight prizes.
The participants for two days competed in six categories. A total of 720 robotics engineers aged 6 to 20 took part in the competition.
“In all, 373 teams from 42 Russian territories including Crimea took part in WRO’s national stage. Also, a Kazakhstan team participated out of competition,” the official commented.
About half of the robotics engineers were 9-11-year school students, Innopolis University's rector for pre-university education Sergei Masyagin said.
“They are our future applicants, best robotics engineers from all regions,” he shared.
Innopolis will be the World Robot Olympiad’s national operator for five years. In November, the World Robot Olympiad that will involve teams from Tatarstan will take place in Sochi. The WRO’s organising committee is headed up by Russian Mass Communications Minister Nikolai Nikiforov and Russian Education Minister Dmitry Livanov.
“We hope this campus’ participants will never forget their teams, these days and Tatarstan,” acting Tatarstan President Ildar Khalikov said while closing the 5th Presidential Academy’s Summer Campus event at Innopolis.
On July 13 in the afternoon, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a solemn opening of the 3d Regional open Olympiad of young geologists of Tatarstan in Almetievsk region.
The event runs on 21 to 23 April. An official ceremony to open the 6th republican youth forum Our Tatarstan took place at Kazan’s IT Park on 21 April. Attendees included Aide to Tatarstan President Leila Fazleeva and Tatarstan Deputy Youth Affairs and Sport Minister Rustam Garifullin.
