Engel Fattakhov: WorldSkills Russia will raise the profile of blue-collar jobs

20 May 2014, Tuesday
Hosting the 2nd WorldSkills Russia in Kazan would raise the profile of blue-collar jobs, Tatarstan Education and Science Minister Engel Fattakhov stated. He reminded that the national tournament features 35 professions against last year’s 25. According to the minister, schoolchildren and students attending the competition will be able to see the work of different specialists and enhance their knowledge on various occupations.
Fattakhov pointed out that education of staff, especially the middle ranking ones, is a priority. “Tatarstan President has set a goal for quality education for these people. We plan setting up 20-25 resource centers across the republic, eight of them this year,” he said, adding that the centers will be organized on the basis of vocational educational institutions.
“The material and technical basis, laboratories, classes and education program, will be set up in collaboration with the employers. The centers will conduct basic and mid-tier vocational education as well as short-term courses. Thus, a resource center will provide qualified personnel in all spheres for the employers,” Fattakhov shared.
The minister went on to say that the republic aimed to organize the championship well and to apply for hosting it again in 2019.
Deputy Russian Government Chair Olga Golodets and Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov took part in the opening ceremony of WorldSkills Russia on 16 May.
