President of Tatarstan meets with international academic competition winners

President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov met with winners of national and international school subject competitions and their teachers at the Republic Centre for Education Quality Monitoring earlier in the day. Other attendees were Tatarstan Education Minister Engel Fattakhov and Kazan Federal University Rector Ilshat Gafurov. The first meeting took place last year.
Before the meeting, the governor inspected the centre’s building that had opened on 22 May. R. Minnikhanov was pleased with what he saw, saying the centre provided every condition to assess the quality of aducation.
“The future is yours, because a fight for people's minds is going on,” Tatarstan President remarked. In his words, establishing special centres and colleges in the region was aimed to keep talented youth from leaving Tatarstan.
“Talented people will find conditions for themselves everywhere but the conditions created in the republic allow hoping that, provided that we do certain work, you will stay here,” he stressed.
Rustam Minnikhanov gave a special mention to the teachers who guaranteed young generation’s future successes through transferring theirknowledge and skills.
“The school needs change, the spirit of enterprise needs to be instilled. A lot in high school education needs to be altered with this in view,” the speaker stated.
Tatarstan Education Minister Engel Fattakhov highlighted the importance of working with talented children the fourth form, especially in exact sciences.
“From this year on, we began to hold a Tatarstan-wide competition in mathematics among 4-8-form students,” he reported.
Kazan Federal University Rector said that good conditions were provided for talented people at Tatarstan's higher schools. At the federal university, such students could conclude their first higher education in 2.5-3 years and be paid an increased scholarship, he claimed.
The schoolchildren and their teachers thanked Tatarstan’s chief executive for support and said that in 2016, Kazan would host an international computer science competition.
Besides, an international committee suggested holding a global chemistry competition the same year. President of Tatarstan welcomed the idea.
In the conclusion of the meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov presented awards to competition qinners and teachers. He gave a million-rouble certificate to the Republic Centre for Education Quality Monitoring. Another certificate, to buy a bus, was awarded to the Republic Academic Competition Centre.
